A Community Vision for Connection and Education
A hireable space for workshops, talks and educational activities. Completion of the Bride’s Hill House is on scheduled for spring 2026.
The Round House (Bride’s Hill House) sits in the gateway of Bride’s Mound (Beckery Chapel), the oldest Celtic Christian burial site in England. The ruins are over 1,500 years old, dating back to the fifth century AD. Bride’s Mound is preserved by Friends of Bride’s Mound (FOBM)and South West Heritage Trust.
Friends of Bride’s Mound set up as a company in 1995 and for over 30 years, since 1986, have been taking people to the burial site at Imbolc.
FOBM have championed this vision, tirelessly advocating for a space that honours the historical and ecological importance of the area. Their commitment, alongside the support of the partners, is a cornerstone of the Roundhouse’s creation.
The Saxon chapel dates back to the time of St. Brigid and St. Patrick. We don’t know the date for the first chapel, which may well have been wooden as there are several post holes but these are not dated.
To get to chapel site (Brides mound) there is an accessible ramp and from the roundhouse there is a disabled path taking people up to the chapel site
Through this initiative and through supporting Friends of Bride’s Mound, we hope to connect visitors to the Avalon Marshes and support efforts to create wildlife corridors that encourage native species to thrive.
We work hand-in-hand with the Friends of Bride’s Mound, the South West Heritage Trust, and the Somerset Wildlife Trust to make this vision a reality.
